Terms of Service

Agreement to Terms

By creating an account or using Finley Reading Quest ("Finley," "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

Finley is intended for use by parents and legal guardians who create accounts on behalf of their children. By creating an account and adding a child learner profile, you represent that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child and that you consent to the collection and use of your child's information as described in our Privacy Policy.

Description of Service

Finley is an AI-powered adaptive reading application designed for children ages 4 through 12. The Service uses Bayesian Knowledge Tracing, spaced repetition, and AI-generated content to provide personalized reading instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and Ehri's phases of word reading development.

The Service includes:

  • Adaptive reading lessons across four game modes (Phonics, Sight Words, Bubble Pop, and Stories)
  • AI-generated content personalized to each child's reading level and interests
  • Real-time skill tracking across a 15-level reading progression
  • Parent dashboard with session reports, progress analytics, and coaching prompts
  • Spaced repetition system for vocabulary retention

Subscription and Billing

Free Trial: All new accounts receive a 30-day free trial with full access to the subscribed plan. A payment card is required for parental consent verification, and your first 30 days are $0. At the end of the 30-day trial, the subscription converts to paid billing unless canceled.

Plans and Pricing:

  • Starter ($7.99/month): 1 child, Levels 1-7
  • Plus ($12.99/month): Up to 2 children, All 15 levels
  • Family ($18.99/month): Up to 4 children, All 15 levels, priority support

Billing: Subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe. You authorize Finley to charge the payment method on file at the start of each billing cycle.

Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. There are no cancellation fees, no "call to cancel" requirements, and no penalties.

Refunds: If you are not satisfied within the first 30 days of a paid subscription, contact hello@finleyreads.com for a full refund. After 30 days, refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.

30-Day Progress Guarantee

Finley offers a 30-Day Progress Guarantee. If you do not see measurable improvement in your child's reading skills within 30 days of active paid use, contact hello@finleyreads.com for a full refund. "Measurable improvement" is demonstrated through the progress data visible in your parent dashboard, including skill mastery scores, level advancement, and vocabulary acquisition metrics.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service, other accounts, or related systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of any part of the Service
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, etc.) to access the Service
  • Misrepresent your identity or your relationship to a child user
  • Share account credentials with anyone outside your household

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Children's Privacy and COPPA Compliance

Finley is committed to compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We collect children's personal information only with verifiable parental consent and only as necessary to provide the reading service.

We do not serve advertisements to children. We do not sell, rent, or share children's personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. For complete details, see our Privacy Policy.

Intellectual Property

All content, design, software, AI models, curriculum, and branding associated with Finley are the property of Lorenzo Harris or its licensors. The AI-generated reading content created for your child during sessions is generated for educational use within the Service and may not be commercially redistributed.

You retain ownership of any feedback, suggestions, or ideas you submit to us, but you grant Finley a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use such feedback for product improvement.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Finley is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the Service's availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. While Finley is built on peer-reviewed reading science, we do not guarantee specific educational outcomes. Results depend on consistent use, individual learning differences, and the degree of parent involvement.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Finley and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of the State of Georgia.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Service before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
